A Must-Have Writing Packet Every Kindergarten Teacher

Every teacher has at least one content area that is their favorite to teach. That’s how I feel about literacy, particularly writing. I am passionate about teaching young kids to write as a form of expression. I love their creativity, their ideas and, of course, their inventive spelling! Writing is generally my students favorite activity. Writer’s Workshop is a daily part of our learning process, but even when the students have free time, they often choose to use it to write in their journal.

Helping Young Children Become Writers

Young children can write and this writing should occur daily in the early childhood classroom. In fact, most students will write before they read! “Over the school year, students’ writing develops…with increasing levels of sophistication of vocabulary, syntax, and stylistic features” (Bailey & Heritage, 2008, p. 159).
