A Must-Have Writing Packet Every Kindergarten Teacher

Every teacher has at least one content area that is their favorite to teach. That’s how I feel about literacy, particularly writing. I am passionate about teaching young kids to write as a form of expression. I love their creativity, their ideas and, of course, their inventive spelling! Writing is generally my students favorite activity. Writer’s Workshop is a daily part of our learning process, but even when the students have free time, they often choose to use it to write in their journal.

Teaching 5 and 6 year old kids to write, however, can be a daunting task. As teachers, we need to set them up for success by having the right writing resources available to them.

If you are new to teaching writing, or need a few new ideas, I highly recommend Kindergarten Kiosk’s Writing resources. They help teachers create an engaging writing center including lesson plans.

When I began teaching kindergarten, these products helped me to organize a writing station that is clear and easy for my students to understand. Even little kiddos who can’t yet read are able to realize the different types of writing they can accomplish just by looking at the pictures.

Writing in the Early Childhood Classroom is used consistently with my students. There are so many great resources to help get the Writer’s Workshop going.

For example, I love using the lesson plans on nouns and adjectives to help my students start thinking about how to write a sentence that has a ‘who’ and a ‘what’.

My favorite part of the bundle, however, is the writing prompts for each month. There is a wide variety to choose from and it allows me to differentiate for my students. For example, they have lined and unlined options so my students who are in the emergent stage can draw a picture with a few letters while my students with more experience can move to using the lines. I use one of these every month and put it in their portfolios to show their progress throughout the year.

These writing products are a great addition to any Kindergarten classroom for teaching their kids to write!
