Three Bears and Families

The three bears is a perfect thematic unit! Not only can you incorporate bears, but you can move into families, Thanksgiving, Christmas, while keeping bears your main theme!

It always surprises me as I begin my theme unit on Families featuring The Three Bears, how few students have heard this delightful traditional tale. It quickly turns into a classroom favorite as we explore version after version. Below are just a few of my favorites with my amazon links.

The story of the three bears is a great way to introduce and practice story elements by retelling, dramatic play reenacting, and charting the elements.

Students fall in love with the family of the three bears! This is a great transition to a theme that is EVERYTHING to a young child, their own family! From the now well-known, and loved bear family consisting of a mama, daddy, and a baby, students can talk about their own families! As you discuss, compare, and contrast family dynamics, students will realize that no matter the configuration —- families are the people you live with and love!
